Gui Guedes: 'Rubi has confidence in me, my time will come'
The 20-year-old midfielder made his Copa del Rey debut last month. The Portuguese 'warrior' puts in the graft with humility and passionate enthusiasm.
The 20-year-old player who seemed to have found the balance between ambition and humility ends up being rewarded. Gui Guedes, who arrived last summer at UD Almería to start a new and exciting chapter in Spain, spoke to UDA Radio from the winter training camp in Marbella: 'In football, you have to be patient, my time will come but I have to keep on working and when my opportunity comes, I'll do my best.'
The Santa Marta de Penaguião native midfielder commented 'I've been working hard this year and I consider myself as a player with the right attitude. I always try to show my quality on a day-to-day basis and I sincerely hope to get more minutes with the team.'
Guedes is part of a first division dressing room and assesses everything that is happening to him in a positive way: 'I feel great in this atypical pre-season and competing with brilliant players in my position.' The No.8 shirt is my favourite but if I had to play in a No.6 position, I'd do it, because I also consider myself strong when it comes down to recovering the ball.'
When mentioning his nationality, the Lusitanian stated: 'Portuguese are warriors. Working non-stop and being fighting footballers who never give up are in our DNA.' Lastly, the Rojiblanco midfielder revealed 'Modrić is my benchmark in football but my idol is Cristiano Ronaldo, although I don't play in his position. He's also Portuguese and for me, he's the best player in the world.'
