0-2: It has just been one of those days

UD Almeria held Villarreal CF to a goalless draw until the 75th minute. Goalkeeper Diego Mariño makes second-half debut replacing injured Fernando.

UD Almería were unable to achieve their second victory on the bounce this season and found themselves outplayed by Villarreal CF, adversaries who put in a commanding performance from the get go. The guests took possession and prevented the Rojiblancos from creating big chances. Even though Rubi made second-half substitutions aiming to get closer to Pepe Reina's goal, the changes ensured no success and the hosts conceded two goals; one in the 75th minute by Gerard Moreno and another in the 87th minute by Morales to seal the game. This was actually a backward step after the stride forward last weekend. On a good note, UD Almería might have lacked precision, but kept a Champions League team at bay until the 75th minute.

As for the starting XI, head coach Rubi made a single change to the side that beat FC Barcelona 1-0 last weekend. Embarba replaced Eguaras. Besides, Chumi returned to the right wing. El Bilal Toure and Luis Suárez were the two chosen up front, a link-up duo that had worked out in the previous match against Barça.

UD Almeria second striker Baptistão squandered the first big chance of the encounter inside 5 minutes and Villarreal CF immediately stepped onto the front foot from the get go to dictate the game. Yeremi hit a well-timed cross first and Fernando dived to the left to stave off danger almost on the goal line. In the 20th minute, Foyth had a great opportunity to put the Amarillo outfit ahead with a powerful header, yet his fine effort went wide.

With 28 minutes on the clock, another goal-scoring opportunity was spurned by Villarreal CF, a one-on-one between Morales and Fernando, who made a foot save that cost him dearly as he picked up an unfortunate injury. Despite playing through the pain, the keeper was replaced at half-time by debutant Diego Mariño. It was a somewhat uncomfortable first half for the Indalicos, who dug in and got their hands on them to hold the Groguets to a nil-all draw before heading down the tunnel.

In the second half, the UD Almeria gaffer made three subs, bringing on Mariño for injured Fernando, Embarba coming on for Samú Costa and Akieme being benched with Centelles making a substitute appearance. The second-period goalie started to show his shot stopping ability and did an outstanding job filling following two superb saves. El Bilal and Luis Suárez began to approach Pepe Reina's goal looking dangerous. Then, Samú Costa’s strike nearly found the net on a breakaway after a throw-in.

At long last, Gerard Moreno opened the scoring (0-1) to put the guests in front on 75 minutes. UD Almería carried on trying to level it up, and to their despair, Villarreal CF doubled their lead. Chukwueze sprayed a pass that was picked up by Morales, who volleyed past Mariño to seal victory over the hosts.
