Rubi: ‘It wasn’t our day and they scored when we were at our best’

The UD Almeria head coach offered his post-Villarreal thoughts: ‘We’ve held a Champions League team to a nil-all draw until the 75th minute, but it's true that we lacked precision and freshness’

UD Almeria head coach Rubi offered his post-Villarreal thoughts on the 0-2 defeat: ‘It wasn’t our day. They scored when we were at our best.' In addition, he stressed ‘it's a shame because we were into the game until the 75th minute.’ Next, Rubi assured the assembled journalists the following: ‘We’ve tried, I’ve made substitutions and the game wasn’t that bad. We’ve wasted some good opportunities though,’ and confirmed: ‘We knew it was going to be complicated, we lacked precision and freshness.’

Regarding the state of mind of his players, the gaffer wanted to make it clear: ‘The dressing room is humble and we think that we’ll achieve it [staying up],’ yet he explained: ‘If we don’t put in the graft, we won’t win games.’

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia ‘Rubi’ gave an explanation to the media about the refresh players in the second half: ‘Even though Akieme wanted to help the team, he wasn't feeling well, he was even dizzy. Fernando experienced some quadriceps discomfort because he felt pain every time he kicked. Samú came on to protect the midfield and add more energy.’

To conclude his speech in the Power Horse Stadium press room, the Vilassar de Mar native assured: ‘We must bounce back quickly because the other teams aren’t giving us a break, they’re showing their true grit,’ and then he added as a positive fact: ‘We’ve held Villarreal CF, who are fighting for the 4th place, to a nil-all draw until the 75th minute without performing at our best,’ and concluded: ‘We’ll always be able bounce back.’
