Xavi Gil: 'The mental aspect is the most important thing this month'

The UD Almería conditioning coach spoke about this mid-season break from the training camp in Marbella.

'There have been no mismatches since there have been few rest days for the team. The most important thing now is to keep the right level of competitiveness to continue to make progress like the squad was doing before the break,' has indicated UD Almería conditioning coach Xabi Gil from the mid-season training camp in Marbella.

Rubi's coaching staff member has highlighted when chatting to UDA Radio that unlike last summer's pre-season 'what matters now is to maintain what already works, and try to switch attention to those aspects that can be improved.' On this subject, he added: 'In addition, this break won't affect us as much as it'll affect the teams that have more internationals who, perhaps, will feel it a little more because of the World Cup.'

On the other hand, Xavi explained the importance of playing games outside of the regular competition against any type of rivals: 'Having trips and friendly matches will help us enormously to get the physical fitness we need on the one hand and on the other hand, to keep up the pace with the league which will be rather short in this second half.'

The UD Almería conditioning coach also commented 'this winter training camp will be as demanding as last summer's. This training session require the deepest concentration. Last summer, the workloads were planned for 14 Matchdays while, the petrol with which we're now filling the tank will have to last until June.'
