Rubi: ‘We can’t deny that the players have given their all’

The UD Almeria head coach arrive at a post-Barça conference feeling ‘proud and satisfied’ with the performance of his players

Rubi chatted to the media in the Spotify Camp Nou press room to assess his players' display: ‘My team has competed fiercely once again; They had their chances to get ahead on the scoreboard, once or twice and we can’t deny that the players have given their all.’

Regarding Ramazani's clear-cut chance, the Rojiblancos’ gaffer made it clear ‘you need a stroke of luck in this type of match and you also need that the opponents squander two or three big chances and that the goalkeeper blocks the rest of their efforts. It's such a shame that one-on-one,’ but Rubi stressed ‘the truth is that Ter Stegen has also been great. His performance is very commendable.’

In general, the UD Almeria head coach is proud of his players: ‘I’m quite satisfied with the involvement of all the players,’ but he is also aware ‘that today, there’s obviously a difference in level. It’s difficult to match and it was hard to survive the pressure that we had trained.’ Rubi also stated: ‘The players were very clear about what they had to do, but FC Barcelona have high quality.’

The head coach concluded by emphasising that UD Almería are one of the few teams that have managed to go into the break scoreless. ‘We’ve managed to hold them to a nil-nil draw until the second half.’
