Akieme: 'In one match, we can play better than FC Barcelona'

The UD Almería left-back assures 'we have to be up to the task' against a team with plenty of top and world-class footballers

Unión Deportiva Almería showed that after 90 minutes, they can be as good as the best in the world. It was during the season opener against current LaLiga Santander and UEFA Champions League champions. Sergio Akieme has expressed his thoughts on this idea: 'Off the pitch, these types of top and world-class players have our respect and admiration, but on the pitch we know that, in one game, we can play better than FC Barcelona.'

The UD Almería left-back has shared with the media some keys to achieve it: 'The first thing we have to do is to weaken their strengths, which are many. We must be careful because their attackers are extremely dangerous. From there, if we succeed, we'll be able to display ours, which we also have.'

In addition, the Madrid-born argued 'the victories we've achieved at home means that whatever happens at the the Camp Nou won't be a punishment; our idea is to suffer as little as possible and go all out for a win. It's a game unlike any other previous one. The rivals are going to force us to be focused throughout the game and we expect them to create many threatening situations that we'll have to solve. We have to be up to the task,' expressed Akieme in the press room at the Power Horse Stadium.

The 24-year-old player also pointed out the importance of 'playing the ball out from the back effectively and taking the initiative in the game to dominate the game little by little.' Akieme considers that it is vital 'to play all together as a team as we showed in other games and to develop our head coach's game plan to the end.'
