1-1: AD Ceuta FC and UD Almería all square at half-time
Embarba’s free-kick cancels out early home side's opener as match is suspended due to the tragic death of a local fan. Second-half resumption to be confirmed
At the time the AD Ceuta FC vs UD Almería was suspended, the score was 1-1, following a dramatic equaliser by Embarba after an early goal from the hosts. The second half remains to be played, though a resumption date is yet to be confirmed.
The game was halted at half-time due to the passing of a local spectator and both teams will return to the Alfonso Murube Stadium at a later date to complete the match. It is expected that the game will be resumed on 26 November, as agreed by both sides.
The match started in difficult circumstances for UD Almería, as they found themselves trailing 1-0 within just 2 minutes. Zalazar pounced on a cross from Matos on the right wing to fire AD Ceuta FC into the lead. There was a controversial moment before the goal, as Konrad dispossessed Chirino in what could have been considered a foul. Despite the early setback, UD Almería gradually gained momentum.
Head coach Rubi fielded the same starting XI that triumphed 3-1 against SD Éibar the previous week, but the visitors struggled to find their rhythm against a resilient AD Ceuta FC side. The Caballa team had been in excellent form on home soil, winning their last 4 games and conceding just once.
In the opening stages, UD Almería seemed uncomfortable, giving up possession too easily and failing to engineer any clear chances. However, Embarba came to the rescue in the 36th minute, curling in a well-taken free-kick to bring the game level.
From there, the Rojiblancos grew in confidence, with Dzôdić (38'), Chirino (42'), and Lopy (added time) all squandering chances to give UD Almería the lead.
The match took an unexpected and somber turn just before the interval when heartbreaking news of the tragic passing of a 73-year-old Ceutí fan was announced, leading to the suspension of the match.
After learning of the tragic incident, UD Almería players went over to thank the travelling crowd who had travelled to Ceuta in North Africa from Almería city, showing their appreciation for the passionate away support.
With the game set to resume later this month, the score remains 1-1 and both teams will look to settle the match when they return to the pitch in a few days.
