UD Almería Managing Director Mohamed El Assy and central midfielder Melero collected the prestigious award.
Junta de Andalucía has sensibly decided that UD Almería's ambitious and successful project including the remarkable achievement of promotion to the Spanish top flight merits professional recognition. The Spanish regional government has handed out the 'Bandera de Andalucía del Deporte Sports' [Sports Andalusian flag] award in an event held at the Huércal-Overa Theatre. UD Almería Managing Director Mohamed El Assy and central midfielder Gonzalo Melero collected the award, which was delivered to them by Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports Almería Delegate José Vélez.
Mohamed El Assy thank them gratefully for this award, and in addition to congratulating the rest of the winners, the UD Almería CEO stressed: 'since Turki Alalshikh bought the Club, he has only had one goal in his mind; turning UD Almería into a top football club to have a big impact at national and international level.' The Club's Managing Director recalled: 'We've managed to earn promotion to the top-tier LaLiga Santander, we've remodelled the Stadium, transforming it into a five-star sports venue, we've improved our social responsability and we also continue working on new challenges.'
El Assy, who underlined that this special award was a source of great pride and immense satisfaction for the Indálicos' Club, highlighted that this recognition 'motivates us even more to continue on this path towards improvement.'
