LaLiga teams up with Netflix to create first sports docuseries in Spain

This is a documentary series that will have exclusive access to the 2023/24 Primera Division season.

LaLiga is not just football. It is also passion, excitement, euphoria and sometimes sadness or frustration. In other words, strong feelings experienced on-and-off the pitch: changing rooms, in the stands, in the vicinity of the stadiums on Matchdays. LaLiga is the main focus of the first sports series that Netflix will produce in Spain.

This is a documentary series that is in the pre-production stage about the 2023/24 Primera Division season and which Netflix will premiere worldwide next year. This new series will follow in the footsteps of other Netflix sports productions such as Formula 1: Drive to Survive or Break Point which gives a behind-of-the-scenes look at the world's most talented tennis players. It will have exclusive access to the Spanish top-flight competition and will also look for life stories emerged from one of the top leagues in the world. ‘Being the protagonist of the first sports series on Netflix in Spain is undeniably a unique opportunity for LaLiga to take our football beyond the fans, to share with the world our passion for this sport and the excellent opportunity for all our fans to watch LaLiga from a totally different angle,’ explained Executive General Director of LaLiga Óscar Mayo.

‘We [Netflix] have always opted to bring interesting series and films to our subscribers all over the world. We’re especially proud and all excited to share this project with LaLiga, which represents an unprecedented opportunity to experience firsthand one of the most exciting sports events in the world,’ underlined Director of Non-Fiction, Documentary Series and Entertainment Programs for Netflix in Spain Álvaro Díaz.
