Fernando Martínez: 'Fans win games'

The UD Almería skipper states 'the league enters a decisive phase and Saturday will be one of those great days with our fans.'

'Fans win games,' stated UD Almería captain Fernando Martínez during an interview in the Club's official media in which the Murcia native goalkeeper called for the support from the fans to stick together 'over this decisive phase of the LaLiga Santander.'

Fernando made it clear: 'The fans are always there with us and I'm pretty sure that this Saturday will be one of those great days with them as it happened last season in the race for promotion to the top flight.'

The UD Almería skipper also explained: 'For the team, having the support from the fans is a plus, and whenever things aren't going well on the pitch, they always lift you up and help you a lot. Their backing is vital. You can tell from the moment you walk out onto the field and hear them belt out the anthem.'

Fernando underlined: 'It's true that a goalkeeper moves less than the outfield players. We [goalkeepers] are closer to the stands and from that position, it's easier to realise how important the role the fans play is, both at home and away.'

The 32-year-old keeper gave great importance to Saturday's encounter against Cádiz CF, since as he pointed out 'it's really tight at the bottom of the table with teams fighting to beat the drop. We'll be playing at home against direct rivals and the three points are essential to us,' although as Fernando explained 'Actually, it's not a decisive match because whatever happens, nothing will be decided, but it's obvious that its importance is considerable.'
