UD Almería’s persistence finally paid off as they came from behind to beat Burgos CF, with Miguel de la Fuente scoring the decisive goal. It is the 5th consecutive win and the first comeback of the 2026/27 season
UD Almería left it late, but their persistence was eventually rewarded. 30 shots, a host of chances and a relentless second-half display set the stage for goals from Brian Cipenga (76') and Miguel de la Fuente (82'), completing the first comeback of the 2026/27 season.
Head coach Xavier García Pimienta said in his pre-match press conference: 'It'll be a long game,' and his players certainly made sure of that.
For the first time this campaign, the Rojiblancos had to come from behind at home. Karrikaburu’s first-half goal had given Burgos CF the lead, but UD Almería never stopped pushing and ultimately secured a 5th straight victory.
First half
The game began at a slow pace, with both sides cautious and unwilling to take unnecessary risks. There was little to report in either penalty area during the opening stages, with both teams focused on maintaining their shape.
Sergio Arribas had UD Almería’s first attempt in the 16th minute, before Mikel Vesga was forced off shortly afterwards after taking a knock. Quim came on in his place.
It was another 5 changes to García Pimienta’s starting XI, despite UD Almería having won all 4 of their previous matches.
The game continued in much the same fashion. The hosts enjoyed plenty of possession but struggled to find a way through a well-organised Burgos CF defence, while the visitors remained compact and offered very little space.
Then came the first mistake and the first goal. In the 39th minute, a mistake in UD Almería’s build-up was punished by opponent Karrikaburu, who opened the scoring to make it 0-1. Llabrés sent a low ball across the box and the Burgalés striker was left with the simplest of finishes to put his side ahead at the UD Almería Stadium.
The goal finally sparked the the hosts into life. Thalys came close in the 43rd minute with a powerful header from Baptistão's cross, before Cantero then produced an excellent save with his feet to keep out another effort from the Brazilian.
UD Almería went into the break behind for the first time this season and for the first time in 2026/27, they had a deficit to overturn.
Second half
UD Almería came out for the second half knowing they had plenty of work to do. There were several records to put right, too. They had yet to score a second-half goal this season, had yet to find the net at the North Stand end and had not previously had to come from behind. The ref had also yet to oversee a home win this campaign.
The Sons of the Desert responded in exactly the way their supporters have come to expect: with intensity, determination and wave after wave of attacking pressure.
Quim had a great chance to level things up in the 55th minute after a brilliant move from the hosts. Arribas found him in space around the penalty spot, but the midfielder was unable to get a clean connection and his effort ended up straight at Cantero.
Arribas went close himself moments later, firing a powerful effort from the edge of the box which dipped and swerved dangerously close to the Burgos CF goal.
García Pimienta then made a triple change, introducing Embarba, Miguel and Chirino for Baptistão, Thalys and Luna. Sergio Francisco responded with 3 substitutions of his own.
Just after the hour mark, Bonini came agonisingly close to an equaliser from a corner. The Italian attacked the near post, but goalie Cantero reacted brilliantly to keep out his effort.
UD Almería were now knocking on the door. De la Fuente then came within inches of levelling after Arribas picked him out at the near post, but his angled effort went just wide.
The equaliser was coming. UD Almería just needed to find the breakthrough.
And it finally arrived with 6 minutes remaining. Cipenga made it 1-1 in the 76th minute, heading home a pinpoint cross from Arribas on the right. Having travelled halfway around the world this week, the Congolese winger arrived at the far post to score UD Almería’s first goal at the North Stand end and their first second-half goal at the UD Almería Stadium this season.
One final statistic remained to be broken. The comeback. And once again, Miguel de la Fuente was there when UD Almería needed him most.
The striker exchanged passes with Arribas before finishing from the edge of the box in the 82nd minute to complete the comeback and make it 2-1.
It was UD Almería’s 25th attempt of the match and their 8th shot on target.
After dominating the second half and refusing to give up, the Rojiblancos had finally turned the game around. A first comeback of the season. A 5th consecutive victory. And 3 more points for UD Almería.
