García Pimienta: 'We deserved the victory'

The UD Almería head coach highlighted in his post-match press conference that 'we knew how to come from behind against tough opponents thanks to everyone’s hard work, believing in what we do and the support of our fans, who carried us through'.

'We deserved the victory.' That was UD Almería head coach Xavier García Pimienta’s assessment in his post-match press conference following UD Almería’s game against Burgos CF.

'We knew how to come from behind against tough opponents thanks to all the players’ hard work, believing in what we do and of course, the fans. This victory is for them because they supported us throughout and carried us through,' he explained.

García Pimienta once again made changes to his starting XI and was asked about his decision to rotate the team: 'We've got a fantastic squad and players who don’t normally get the chance to start deserved to play. When someone is working well and performing at the same level as their team-mates, I try to adapt to the game plan and the opposition. We felt this was the best line-up for the match. It's true that Miguel de la Fuente had been carrying a bit of a knock, although he could've played, but Thalys was ready to get some minutes'.

The Barcelona-born added: 'I feel bad for the players who didn’t feature, such as Sola, Pulido and Nico Melamed... but they can’t all play. I take my hat off to this squad.'

Reflecting on the match itself, the gaffer said: 'We played well and created a lot of chances. We did everything we could to win. We were up against very well-organised opponents who made things extremely difficult for us. We switched off for a moment and they took the lead.'

However, as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining: 'We broke a few records'. UD Almería had not scored this season at the North Stand end and had yet to come from behind to win a game.

They did both against Burgos CF and in doing so secured their 5th consecutive victory of the 2026/27 season.
