Almería B homegrown players return to the fold next week

Fernando Santos continue at the head of the squad. The second-team are waiting to learn the fixtures of the championship start

Almería B have decided to start next week their pre-season for the 2020/21 campaign. The idea of the homegrown players is to exercise at Vega de Acá training ground on Monday, 24th August in the afternoon. Nonetheless, the fact that footballers are going to be screened and tested for Covid-19 opens the possibility that the first training session will be delayed to Tuesday due to time constraints.

Fernando Santos, ‘Nandinho’, and his backroom team continue to be in charge of training the Academy's first-team squad. In addition, the squad will have the base of the players who wore the red and white jersey last season, although the technical staff are working on reinforcing some positions. Some Almeria Under-19s will also join the team.

The global health crisis has caused the members of the B-team to have been unable to step on the pitch for nearly six months, since the regular league was halted and the last match was played last March. That is the reason why the club has decided to start the pre-season now, also taking into consideration that some of the members of the Almería B team have the possibility of attending some of the first-team preparations and do not want to run any risk of injury as a consequence of time of inactivity.

Regarding the start of the league in Tercera (Third Division), the UD Almería Academy are waiting to learn the schedule and fixtures so as to find out the group in which the homegrown players will be competing. In this sense, the probability that the league start will be delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic leads the Federation to establish subgroups in the category in which the Eastern Andalusian clubs are located. Be that as it may, the youngsters will train during these months to be in good shape before the first official commitment.
