‘We have to take a step forward and I am convinced that we will make it’

José María Gutiérrez says that Cádiz's game will be very complicated, but he has full confidence in his squad. The head coach also praises the fans and supporters

José María Gutiérrez gave a press conference prior to the next meeting in Cádiz and stressed that ‘Right now, it is the time to start winning’. In case Almeria achieves a victory at Ramón de Carranza, ‘winning the three points to close the gap on the leaders and runners-up would mean to build our hopes on believing that the players are better than they might think; because Almeria are a great team, with great players.’

After considering that the meeting between rojiblancos and Fuenlabrada is crucial, the head coach stressed that ‘the side are working well’ during training. A fact that led him to claim: ‘I see how they are training and I have nothing negative to say about their way of working or qualities.’

The UD Almeria’s gaffer is aware that duels in Cadiz require ‘to play with character’, although that requirement is also necessary when the ball rolls at Juegos Mediterraneos. ‘We are mentally prepared for this type of matches. We have to take a step forward and I am sure that we will make it’, said José María Gutiérrez. At the same time, the backroom team are convinced that the players are going to perform a great match.

Regarding the next opponents, the Almeria head coach explained that ‘Cádiz are a team that defend very well. Many times, they let you play your game so that you might go wrong and then they are ready to counterattack.’ In this sense, the Madrid-born coach believes that the amarillos, who are currently topping the table, know how to play against the rojiblancos. However, our players have prepared the game conscientiously because the Gaditanos are well known for ‘their great form and very own way to play.’

Football would be nothing without fans. If matches were played without fans creating an atmosphere, it simply would not provide entertainment value, so José María Gutiérrez praised the fans and supporters who remain loyal and will be cheering on the rojiblancos once more in the Andalusian city. This fact must be another great motivation for all of us to know that there are people travelling to support us regardless of the situation. He also pointed out that ‘the fans are always by our side and we have to take the first step. From there… if we give what we have to give, people will respond positively for sure.’
