‘We got rid of our losing streak; now it’s time to get back to winning ways’

José Gomes, who considers Fuenlabrada the most difficult opponents to face, is hoping his team to react in the league now

‘We got rid of our losing streak; now it’s time to get back to winning ways’. José Gomes, UD Almería head coach, spoke to the media via video conference ahead of Saturday's home match against in-form Fuenlabrada.

The Lusitanian head coach admitted that ‘the team are looking better after having drawn last Wednesday, although what we really wanted was to win. Anyway, it was important not to experience one more loss. I truly think it's time to start being on a roll.’ Therefore, it will be essential, as he explained, ‘to play with joy, confidence and making sure that the responsibility that everything we represent counts… we just have to be ourselves.’

At the same time, Jose Gomes acknowledged that ‘the fact that our performance is below expectations has led us to look for the opponents’ goal come what may. We have to be aware that rush and anxiety are the enemies if we show our true identifying features.’

That is why Jose Gomes is adamant that ‘playing patiently, calmly enough to snatch the ball quickly out of our danger zone, exploiting half spaces, managing effectively movements of transitions and tightening up our defence. The gaffer was convinced that his team will reflect this Saturday what they show in training day by day.’

Of course, the native of Matosinhos stressed that ‘we’re going to face the most difficult adversaries to date. Fuenlabrada are very strong, aggressive and they always go all out to have the ball under control… but we can nullify their strengths and enhance ours with intense concentration and doing everything we really know how to do.’

José Gomes reflected that ‘It saddens me that our performance is below our expectations, although at the same time, we’re working well and that gives me peace of mind. This exciting project will achieve its objectives.’
