UD Almería slip to third but maintain aspirations for automatic promotion

The Rojiblancos will go all out to solidify their league ambitions at Easter; they host SD Ponferradina on Holy Monday and visit Real Valladolid CF on Holy Saturday

A tight race for promotion is in-store. After eight Mathdays, UD Almeria have slipped to third place in the standings after sharing the spoils with SD Huesca (1-1) and following Real Valladolid CF’s victory over CD Lugo (4-1); but in spite of that, the Rojiblancos maintain their aspirations for automatic promotion since the race for promotion has tightened up. In fact, table-toppers SD Eibar have collected 67 points; Real Valladolid CF are now second on 64 points and UD Almería one point behind (63), yet the top two will be the ones to earn automatic promotion to the top flight.

Promotion-hunting Girona FC with 58 points are further down; CD Tenerife are in the fourth position with 56 and Real Oviedo, who have just entered the play-offs with 51 points level on points with seventh-placed SD Ponferradina, who will be UD Almería's next rivals. Play-off-chasers UD Las Palmas sit eight after picking up 50 points in the race for promotion.

The indalicos maintain their aspirations to move up through automatic promotion and in this sense, they will go all out to solidify their league ambitions at Easter. UD Almeria are hosting SD Ponferradina on Holy Monday (11st April) while Real Valladolid CF visit Málaga CF and SD Eibar fly to Ibiza on the same day. Next, Rubi’s side will play away to Real Valladolid CF on Saturday, 16th April, a stern test that could be key in the fight for promotion, but nothing has been decided yet because there are still six games to go, or what is the same 18 points at stake. Later on we'll see what happens in a particularly difficult competition in which many things happen Match week after Match week.
