UD Almería reach World Cup break with five-point advantage over drop zone

The Rojiblancos are the fifth team with the best home form in LaLiga Santander after building a fort at the Power Horse Stadium.

The greatest show on Earth gets underway in the Middle East soon with UD Almeria starting this winter break sitting 14th in the LaLiga Santander table, five points over relegation places, a comfortable advantage to ease their relegation worries.

Once Matchday 14 is over, the Rojiblancos have bagged a total of 16 points, the same as rivals Girona FC, who sit 13th because of their superior goal difference. Getafe CF (14), RCD Espanyol de Barcelona (12) and Celta de Vigo (12) follow behind. Then, Andalusian teams Sevilla FC and Cádiz CF have 11 points in the drop zone along with bottom team Elche CF (4). Real Valladolid CF (17) as well as RCD Mallorca (19) and Valencia CF (19) are ahead of UD Almeria in mid-table.

Times are looking up for UD Almería and the team has now made satisfactory progress as head coach Rubi predicted at the beginning of the season, due to the late recruitment of some players, who did not participate in the pre-season while some others are at a younger age.

A salient fact is that UD Almeria are the fifth team with the best form at home in LaLiga Santander. Only FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Real Betis and Athletic Club de Bilbao have obtained better results on home turf so far. Five wins in seven fixtures, the last four clinched on the bounce. The Power Horse Stadium has been turned into an indestructible fort.

The scores achieved by the Indalicos on their outings are the downside although the more away games they play, the better vibes they get. Steps are being taken to secure improvement in their performances by the time the competition resumes. UD Almería have already visited top-flight sides FC Barcelona, Villarreal CF, Real Betis, Athletic Club de Bilbao…

Moreover, UD Almeria have a positive goal difference since there is not a single outstanding player and goals have been scored by several players who seem to have fancy footwork. El Bilal Touré has netted three; Ramazani and Leo Baptistao have scored two goals each, and last but not least, Babic, Robertone, César de la Hoz, Melero, Eguaras, Embarba and Lázaro have found the back of the net once. Without forgetting former striker Sadiq, who also scored for UD Almeria before his departure to Real Sociedad.
