‘Saturday will be a great opportunity to fix this by winning in Cádiz’

We get to know Fernando Martínez better on UDA Radio from Hotel Catedral

The player made his debut wearing the rojiblanca shirt in Cádiz back in 2017. Right now, he is one of the UD Almería’s skippers. Fernando Martínez was the second guest on the talk radio show 'En Clave Rojiblanca'. The new radio programme intends to not only get to know the players, but also the coaching staff and the club’s directors. The keeper always wanted to put on his footie gloves: ‘Since I started playing football, I wanted to become a goalkeeper; I remember that when I was a child, my coach asked me once if I was sure to become a goalkeeper. I thought that the next day I would get tired of it, change my mind and become a forward instead. It was not like that. I always wanted to play this role on the pitch. I really enjoy it despite playing in a different position from the rest of my team-mates. Let’s say we are the party-poopers and we are the ones who save what everyone wants…the goal. It is a difficult position but anyone who is born a goalkeeper enjoys his way very much’, he explained with a sparkle in his eyes while pointing to Buyo and Illgner as his role models since he was a child.

On this occasion, the Cádiz CF player, Álvaro Giménez, put in a good word for Fernando with UDA Radio because last season’s top goal scorer playing for Almeria and the goalkeeper shared colours before: ‘He is an outstanding goalkeeper. It was really tough for me to find the net every time he was defending the goal in the training sessions. He is such a good person and it is really easy to get on well with him.’

The radio programme is presented by Carlos Felipe; accompanied by the sports journalist Jordi Folqué, who works for ‘Cadena COPE’ station and ‘Ideal’ newspaper, as well as Javi Gálvez (UDA Radio) will analyse this crucial moment of the season when Almeria is doing their best to return to winning ways. Pedro García will be in charge of the production.

When it comes to analysing the team’s performance, Fernando made it clear: ‘Almeria are always thinking about the next game. Saturday is a great opportunity to fix this by winning in Cádiz, so that the team will change things around.’

René, Romera and Aguza left him some messages that enabled listeners to find out more about the goalie, who let us know what his favourite hobby is: ‘I am crazy about DIY.’
