Rubi: ‘We’ve been brave and we’ve played at the same level as Valencia CF’

The UD Almeria head coach shared his post-match thoughts after the final whistle at the Mestalla Stadium: ‘We wanted to win, but getting this draw after competing as we did makes me very happy’

UD Almeria head coach Rubi shared his post-match thoughts after the final whistle was blown at the Mestalla Stadium: ‘We’ve been brave and we’ve played at the same level of skill as Valencia CF.’ He stressed ‘We wanted to win,’ although he also mentioned in this regard that ‘getting this draw after competing as we did makes me very happy.’

The Rojiblancos’ gaffer admitted ‘we suffered at the beginning of the match because Valencia CF started off the game very well, although both teams were evenly-matched later on.’ Rubi pointed out ‘we didn't step into the box as we should’ve done in the first half despite having a penalty awarded.’

When analysing the second period, the Vilassar de Mar native explained ‘we’ve created more effective plays and there were further chances at either half of the pitch. We showed personality and were brave enough to have scored the third goal and the victory.’

When questioned about the fact that his team did not win away during the first half of the season, he replied ‘it’s not easy to do it in this tier, in which it’s really tough to win away from home, but at the same time we’ve also shown that it’s difficult to beat us at home.’
