Rubi: ‘Unfortunately, we’ve gifted two points’

Rubi acknowledges: ‘It's a shame that we didn't give continuity to the first half; I didn't expect the team to lack so much precision in the second half’

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, ‘Rubi’ admitted during the post-Oviedo press conference that he had a ‘bad’ feeling from his first game as head coach of UD Almería due to the fact ‘they we didn’t take advantage of a 2-0 lead against Real Oviedo, a team that don’t concede much.’ Then he added: ‘Unfortunately, we’ve gifted two points.’

The newly appointed UD Almeria head coach shared his impression that the team's victory got complicated by their own mistakes and this led him to emphasise: ‘I actually need more hours of work.’ Not surprisingly, in his humble opinion, ‘it seems that the goals came without doing much to us,’ a factor that made him worry about handling ‘that point of ability in some situations.’

Focusing on the first half, Rubi said ‘Almería played very good football in the opening forty-five minutes and it could be enjoyed as a fan.’ On this note, he pointed out: ‘The plan was to remain the same, but we had the feeling that it was hard for us to keep the ball. That’s why Villalba came on.’

On the other hand, regarding the game after the restart, he stated: ‘I didn't expect the team to lack so much precision in the second half. If you are up 2-0, you have to try to enjoy it and not complicate yourself. It's a shame that we didn't give continuity to the first half in the second.’

The Catalan gaffer has many hours of training ahead with some footballers who make up a ‘very young squad that gives you very good things,’ and face the training sessions with the idea of ‘correcting certain mistakes so that they’re not made again.’
