Pepe Mel: "When the opponents' head coach tells you that you deserved to win…"

The UD Almería head coach highlighted the good game his team had played as they trained over the week, although he clarified: "We need to be stronger and more effective in the areas"

'We should've won, when the opponents' head coach tells you that, we're honoured by his words. It's all been said, I can't add more,' said UD Almería gaffer Pepe Mel in the post-Villarreal press conference.

'The team has a game plan and develops it nicely, we've been much better at passing the ball. We've successfully gotten the ball out, we've reached the attacking third well... maybe we have to be more effective in the areas, where everything is decided. This league meeting sums up what's happening to the team, but they continue to grow. If you don't look at the result, they've done it fairly good. As from tomorrow, I'll continue convincing them of the plan and focus on Getafe CF,' he added.

The man in the driving seat of UD Almería highlighted: 'UD Almería played a fairly good game, but we must improve our performance in the areas.' Furthermore, he added: 'If someone who isn't from Spain comes to the Stadium and you tell them that the one wearing the red and white stripes is the bottom team, they won't believe it.' This situation completely defies logic.

The Madrid native then emphasised: 'I'm happy with what I've seen at a football level. You have to take into account who you have in front of you. We've played against teams that compete in the Champions League (Real Sociedad and Villarreal) in San Sebastián we could've gotten a better result and we deserved to win today.'

The Indálicos' head coach also spoke about Ramazani's sending-off. 'It happened at a very bad time, I had already made the changes to boost the attack, 1-1 wasn't worth it and we wanted to win. Ramazani had come on, up front, Luka Romero… but we were taken aback by that dismissal that weakened us.'

Pepe Mel cannot explain how it is possible that the team has not managed to win: 'Today I've seen on the pitch what we trained for, from Maximiano up, and we must remember that Villarreal CF were in front, the team is the protagonist, they plays from the outside, from the inside …What is missing? Well, obviously the result in football means everything.'

To conclude his post-match assessment in the press room, Mr Mel underlined: 'We have to do the same against Getafe CF and win, the destiny will be the same, but at least, we'll surely be happier.'
