‘My players deserved to have drawn this match’

José Gomes considers that both teams were evenly-matched and points out that sharing the spoils would have been fairer

Jose Gomes gave his take on the tightly-contested game against Mallorca and his post-match reaction triggered off comments such as football ‘doesn’t do justice’. The UD Almería head coach, after observing the merits of both second-tier sides, highlighted: ‘I’d say that my players deserved to have tied this game, at least. As the Portuguese commented, a single detail at hands of Mallorca changed everything and ended up unbalancing a contest that seemed to be destined for a goalless draw.

The team coach from neighbouring country Portugal pointed out that ‘it was a big and interesting game at a tactical level.’ Because of the latter aspect ‘we lost a bit of speed in the first half’, he pointed out.

José Gomes considers that the fixture has been in essence ‘a game with evenly-matched teams at all levels’, in which UD Almería showed that they have great qualities to compete against teams like Mallorca, who aspire to promotion. By the same token, before concluding, the Lusitanian recalled several clear attempts at goal from the home team: ‘We created a goalscoring opportunity with Lazo in the first half, and then, in sequence of events, Samu’s shot hit the post.’
