‘It’s really frustrating to finish this game without taking any points’

José Gomes stresses that ‘we must continue like this’ when referring to the way UD Almería play

José Gomes had his say on today’s home defeat against Sporting de Gijon and stressed that ‘today, I put the blame for the loss on the shooting accuracy’ during the post-match virtual press conference. ‘We played a high-quality game, dominating and creating big chances to score a goal but we didn't,’ he added.

The Portuguese head coach explained that ‘it’s really frustrating to finish this game without taking points’, since he considers that only two mistakes made by the team caused the victory to escape from the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium.

In any case, despite losing at home, José Gomes did not hesitate to point out that ‘we must continue like this’ when referring to the personality shown by UD Almería in the way they play, although he would improve as an important point the fact of making the most of the ‘scoring opportunities. ‘Every time we get to the opposite area, we have to exploit half spaces to find the goal,’ he explained.

The gaffer also expressed his feeling that he is happy and satisfied with the team’s work and performance throughout the week and on the matchday. Meanwhile, he concluded by stating the need to wait a few more weeks for the players to take in the idea and the concepts, since, as he said before, ‘we are building up a new team.’
