‘Football means enjoying and suffering’

Mario Silva points out that his team suffered from tiredness and anxiety during the second-half

Mario Silva analysed the victory of UD Almería over Rayo Vallecano and highlighted that ‘the team have to feel proud about their first-half performance.’ However, the Portuguese head coach, when focusing exclusively on the second period, also expressed his opinion that ‘we have to be more consistent’ in order to win more comfortably.

The member of the backroom team underlined ‘the suffering of the players’, since, in his humble opinion ‘football means enjoying and suffering’ when aiming to get the three points. However, he recognised that ‘after winning 3-0, we can’t allow mistakes such as conceding two goals.’

During his match account, Silva stated that he felt ‘the nervousness and anxiety of his players from the moment of 3-1.’ This situation has been explained on the basis that the Almería footballers ‘are quite young’ and that is taking its toll on us at the same level as, as he pointed out, ‘the tiredness’. So, he added: ‘It is a project on promotion. The players don’t want to let the club, the fans and the city down and they bear it in mind.’

Mario Silva recognized Rayo Vallecano's effort to fight back. ‘On the other side there was a very knowledgeable head coach, a great team and we were expecting them to scare us.’
