Fernando Santos bids farewell to Almeria ‘B’

‘I’m proud to have been part of this club,’ underlines the Portuguese coach

Fernando Santos will no longer be the UD Almería ‘B’ head coach after the Club and the Portuguese have agreed not to renew his contract that expired at the end of this 2020/21. The Academy youth team are now waiting for a somebody new to be in the driving seat.

'Nandinho' arrived at the Rojiblancos Club on Matchday 9 in the past 2019/20 campaign, achieving a 16-game undefeated streak with Almería ‘B’ coming oh-so-close to the promotion zone to Segunda Division ‘B’, although the play-offs were not contested due to coronavirus lockdown when the young Indalicos were three points away from meeting their goal. In addition, he was part of the coaching staff of the UD Almeria first-team for a short time in LaLiga SmartBank.

The now former Almeria ‘B’ head coach has conducted the Academy prospects’ training throughout the championship this 2020/21 season. The UD Almería ‘B’ team finished second in the first phase but unluckily failed to net in a game against Antequera CF and were knocked out in the semi-final play-off for promotion to Segunda Division RFEF

Before leaving Almeria city, Fernando Santos stated that he had ‘a bittersweet feeling.’ He was filled with sadness for not being able to win promotion in the end, while his satisfaction comes from the way in which the youthful players have been able to ‘work and see the them grow in an extraordinary way.’

‘From the beginning, we felt at home and I’m leaving feeling immensely proud to have been part of this Club. This city will always be in my heart and I’ll always follow UD Almería,’ exclaimed the Portuguese coach during his farewell.

UD Almería would like to thank Fernando Santos for his time at the Club and wishes him the very best for the future.
