4-1: UD Almería Stadium erupts as resounding victory sends fans into frenzy
The Rojiblancos knocked luckless Sevilla FC out in the Spanish Cup round of 32 as they bounced back in style from conceding an early goal. More than 15,000 supporters in the stands. Luis Suárez celebrates new hat-trick and Marezi makes his Cup debut
The UD Almería Stadium erupted as the unforgettable resounding 4-1 victory over Sevilla FC sent fans into a frenzy. The Indálicos qualified for the Spanish Cup round of 16 after knocking hapless Sevilla FC out and bouncing back in the second half from conceding an early opener in front of more than 15,000 fans. Marezi, one of the new additions to the starting XI, equalised and then Luis Suárez grabbed a fantastic hat-trick again to round off a magical night.
Rubi, as he announced in the pre-Cup press conference, put together a recognisable starting line-up with which he usually contributes in the league, although with some new faces, highlighting above all the presence in the team of centre-back Radovanovic and Marezi in the attack alongside the Colombian striker. A 4-4-2 formation that sprung a surprise against Sevilla FC.
The Rojiblancos were slow out of the traps since Sevilla FC took an early lead before the 5th minute. They could even have made it 0-2 in the 8th minute, but Maximiano prevented it with a great save. The goal took its toll on UD Almería, who were affected until the 20th minute, when they began to react from the blow they received.
Until then, the hosts were at the mercy of the Sevillistas, who made their presence known in the final third extremely confident. It was a game of two halves. Little by little, Rubi's men recovered and began to take the initiative, creating dangerous situations. Luis Suárez, on 27 minutes; Marezi, within 29 minutes; again the Colombian in the 39th minute and Nico Melamed in the 44th minute rued missed chances. Despite the countless shots on goal, they were trailing 0-1 at half-time.
The second half was a real show both on and off the pitch as the jubilant UD Almería fans danced a jig of delight at the Stadium. The match restart saw Marezi, from the edge of the box, fire a shot that hit the post and went into the back of the net. It was the tie with 48 minutes gone. Shortly after, in the 54th minute, a collective play by Bruno Langa, Pozo and Marezi was completed by Luis Suárez. The Indálicos were class as they had turned the score around. UD Almería not only played making sensible decisions, but also put in an excellent defensive display to prevent Sevilla FC from getting back into the match.
In the 61st minute, in an unsuccessful build-up play, the guests were close to changing the score to two-all, but the grit, courage and dedication of the home team avoided it. The game was flowing. Radovanovic, who intercepted the ball, was celebrating as if he had scored. It was no wonder.
UD Almería continued to command until another brilliant play extended their lead. Marc Pubill passed the ball to Arnau Puigmal, who had just entered the pitch, all on the right wing, he crossed in and Luis Suárez produced another piece of magic to make it 3-1.
The Stadium erupted, especially when in the middle of the show, Quintanilla host the woodwork and in stoppage-time, the Colombian striker slammed in the fourth by converting a penalty (4-1). The limbs! The Indálicos have out the name in the hat for the Spanish Cup round of 16 in style!
