2-1: UD Almería continue to climb up the table
The Rojiblancos showed their might against RC Deportivo de la Coruña, but the lack of pinpoint precision prevented a comprehensive victory. The goal-scoring chances followed one another in the second half. Edgar and Leo Baptistao scored the two goals
UD Almería continue to climb up the table as this 2-1 victory over RC Deportivo de La Coruña extends their unbeaten streak to five games. The Rojiblancos are building a fortress in the Stadium and they are approaching the VIP zone in the standings, still having a game in hand against Córdoba CF that will be played soon. The Rojiblancos outclassed their opponents, especially in a second period, but the lack of pinpoint accuracy with numerous wasted scoring opportunities led to uncertainty in the dying embers. Half-time was reached with the same final result 2-1, after a first half in which the Indálicos were losing momentum. The team is in a really good place at the moment.
There were not many changes to the starting XI. Rubi already announced it in the eve, but it was necessary to clear up the question of who would accompany Baba in the midfield, which was finally Gui Guedes because Melero was ruled out of the squad and Edgar remained as a centre-back. This change, along with the presence of Pozo and Nico Melamed in the absence of Marc Pubill and Bruno Langa in relation to the meeting in Elche, were the head coach's swaps.
In the opening minutes, UD Almería confirmed the team's good dynamic seen over the last few match weeks. They did not struggle defending, although they had to be careful with Deportivo's quick transitions, and they were powerful in attack. With 15 minutes on the clock, Arribas narrowly sent the ball wide after a good play by an active Alejandro Pozo.
The Rojiblancos insisted and in the 31st minute, following a corner-kick taken by Nico Melamed, Edgar headed into the back of the net. It was 1-0 and based on what was being seen it seemed that the match was beginning to get on track. Shortly after, in the 35th minute, the Galicians also found the equaliser from a corner. Even Barbero from UD Almería was close to making it 1-2 on 37 minutes.
A few minutes of uncertainty that in the first-half stoppage time were cleared with the 2-1 achieved by Baptistao after a well-timed cross from Centelles after a brilliant and linked play by UD Almería attack. This is how they reached the break.
UD Almería commanded from the beginning of the second half and bossed in the final third. The brilliant squad made their presence felt in the box with danger, with a lot of danger, with really clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities. Luis Suárez, Leo Baptistao, Arribas, Gui Guedes...squandered chances.
UD Almería dominated Dépor and won the ball back from their opponent easily. The Blanquiazules did not take their first shot on goal until the 68th minute. But time passed, the goal did not come and although control was total, as the final whistle approached, concern grew. Rubi was clear about it and started playing with three centre-backs and placing another defender, Kaiky, in the midfield.
The Indálicos could not fail and they did not. This 2-1 victory was of utmost importance.
