‘Almeria defeat to Ponferradina has served as a wake-up call’

José María Gutiérrez acknowledges that it was the worst time to lose and regretted that the team continue conceding goals

José María Gutiérrez, head coach of UD Almería, was resigned and hurt by the defeat suffered at the hands of Ponferradina. In fact, the coach explained that ‘it is the worst time to lose because we are now going on holiday and there is no game coming soon to change our emotions, we have not taken advantage of the Cadiz’s defeat to close the gap in the table ... but it is what it is and to tell you the truth, this result doesn’t feel right’.

When the manager was asked about the constant game interruptions when Almeria was 2-3 and looking for a draw, the Almeria’s coach gave a reason for it: ‘it is part of football and every side do it when they go ahead on the scoreboard’.

What he regretted was that ‘all the goals scored by the opponents are upsetting and if we are giving them away, it hurts even more’. Then he added that ‘we have to correct that because we are conceding many goals; I have been saying this from the beginning’. We also regret not having been able to control the ball more and the fact that the supporters had left all saddened. ‘This defeat is definitely a wake-up for all’.
