Almeria ‘B’ youngsters to play two crowdless home games this week

‘El Palo’ visit the Anexo ground on Wednesday while ‘Velez’ will be playing inside the Juegos Mediterraneos stadium on Sunday

The UD Almería ‘B’ team continue their race for promotion to Segunda Division RFEF with two home games this week. The young Rojiblancos host El Palo at the Anexo pitch on Wednesday (kick-off 6:00 p.m. CEST) while they will do the same with Vélez on Sunday (kick-off 12:00 p.m. CEST), but this time inside the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium. Both meetings will take place behind closed doors following the measures to avoid the spread of Covid-19 adopted by the Junta de Andalucía that apply to Almería city for the time being.

The Almeria youth squad will go into these two games willing to improve their performance and climb up the table in order to have an edge over their competitors in the play-offs for the third place that gives access to Segunda Division RFEF. Antequera edged their way past Almeria ‘B’. As a result, the Rojiblancos’ hopes of winning automatic promotion are now wrecked.

The Almería ‘B’ products will catch up on this stretch of the campaign with El Palo's visit to the Anexo Juegos Mediterraneos as this game got suspended because some adversaries within the Malaga-based side tested positive for Covid-19. At the qualifying level, a victory would not make the boys from Almeria leave fifth place, but it would bring them closer to the third and fourth spots that lead to the upcoming play-off semi-finals. On the other hand, already-promoted Vélez visit the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium on Sunday.

The third route to go up a rank is complex and occupying a higher place in the standings will be vital for sure. The third and fourth qualified teams will play the semis waiting for rivals coming from the quarter-finals. This round would be played by the fifth and sixth sides against the top two-finishing teams that arrive from the repechage, who are currently Atlético Malagueño and Torremolinos. It is worth mentioning that the clubs will play one-off games at the best positioned team’s pitch during this knockout stage.
