5-1: UD Almería run riot to go second

UD Almería stormed into the automatic promotion places with a thumping 5–1 victory over Real Sociedad B on a memorable Sunday afternoon.

It was a dream start at the UD Stadium. Miguel de la Fuente pounced on a poor clearance from Fraga to open the scoring in just the 3rd minute, setting the tone for a dominant display. The hosts came out with intent, determined to capitalise on opponents’ slip-ups and they did exactly that.

Sergio Arribas, the league’s top scorer, soon made his mark. After hitting the crossbar earlier, he doubled the lead with a composed finish, interestingly with his weaker foot. UD Almería were in full control, dictating the tempo and creating chances at will.

Before the break, they could have extended the lead further, with Embarba and Arribas both denied by the goalkeeper in quick succession. At half-time, the scoreline barely reflected the Rojiblancos' superiority.

After the restart, Arribas produced a moment of magic. Cutting in from the right with a dazzling move worthy of a basketball court, the pichichi fired home via a deflection for his second goal and UD Almería’s third (55’). With 20 goals to his name, the playmaker continues to shine.

Real Sociedad 'B' briefly pulled one back through Gorka Carrera from a corner, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished. Embarba converted a penalty soon after to make it 4–1, following a defensive error and a clumsy challenge.

Álex Muñoz then capped off the rout, reacting quickest to a rebound in the box to seal the 5–1scoreline.

It was a complete performance from UD Almería, who now sit in second place, firmly in the promotion race. With 4 straight home wins and 10 games remaining, the Indálicos look like the form team in the Segunda division and  serious contenders for a return to the top flight.
