0-4: UD Almería Women on brink of promotion after ruthless first-leg display

UD Almería Women have virtually wrapped up their promotion play-off tie to Segunda RFEF women's tier after a commanding 0–4 win over SD Nueva Montaña in Santander in the first leg. Despite the emphatic result, the decisive return match will be played next Sunday, 10 May at 12 noon at the Emilio Campra youth stadium where the Indálicas will look to finish the job with full respect for their opponents.

Following a week of uncertainty due to late confirmation of the fixture by the Federation the match finally took place at the Vicente Miera pitch in Peñacastillo. UD Almería Women were backed by a strong contingent of travelling supporters, ensuring the team never felt alone despite the distance.

The visitors, forced to wear black due to a kit clash, came into the play-off as Group IX champions with a superior coefficient compared to the other Andalusian group winners. Meanwhile, SD Nueva Montaña qualified as Group III runners-up as Racing Santander 'B' Women were ineligible for promotion.

The Rojiblancas started on the front foot but initially struggled to break down a resilient home side. The breakthrough came just before half-time when Paqui Campoy converted from close range after a delivery from the right, an important psychological blow. Early in the second half, Marisa doubled the lead with a strike from the edge of the box, putting the tie firmly in UD Almería Women's hands.

Forced to chase the game, the hosts left gaps that the guests exploited ruthlessly. Campoy grabbed her second in the 69th minute and Miriam sealed the emphatic win in the 80th, making it 0–4 and giving the visitors a huge advantage heading into the second leg.

Head coach Pedro López picked out the following starting XI: Andrea, Mireya, Conchita, Esther, Marina, Jessi, Lucía, Ángela, Gisela, Paqui and Marisa. Erika, Inés, Romero, Cayetana and Miriam also featured.
