4-1: UD Almería back to winning ways!
The Rojiblancos outplayed Real Zaragoza and turned on the style with goals courtesy from Edgar, Luis Suárez, Nico Melamed, and Marc Pubill. They were already 2-0 up after 16 minutes and at half-time they were 3-1 up. It's about time Rubi's side clinched a comprehensive victory
UD Almería got back to winning ways after 8-game winless streak and are once again making their presence known in LaLiga Hypermotion because, although they remain out of the play-off spots, they have everything within reach and enough time left to aim for the top place. To achieve this, beating Real Zaragoza was crucial; there was no room for error. Throughout the week, the players and their head coach mm emphatically stated that this Saturday was the day... and it was.
The Indálicos were in the zone and outplayed their opponents from North Spain. So much so that by the 16th minute, the visitors were trailing 2-0, and the half-time lead was 3-1, putting the match back on track.
Rubi made a few changes to the squad that took SD Eibar last week, both in terms of his system and his players. Bruno Langa played as a left back; Robertone returned to midfield alongside Melero and Lopy, and the wings were occupied by Arnau Puigmal and Nico Melamed.
The start was lightning-fast, with rage, absolute determination and vertical football… In the 4th minute, Luis Suárez squandered the first chance, and it didn't take long for the 1-0 to arrive. In the 6th minute, Edgar scored after a series of rebounds from a corner. With 10 minutes on the clock, Arnau could have doubled their lead 2-0, but in the 16th minute, the Barcelona native assisted Luis Suárez, who fired a shot from the edge of the box that the visitor goalkeeper could do nothing to block.
UD Almería dominated, controlled the situation and easily got ahead. They did so on the wings and in the middle third. The Rojiblancos knew how to get behind the Real Zaragoza defence, which could do nothing to stop the Indálicos, who, on top of that, had a good sense of anticipation in defence and midfield, thus keeping the Maños under control.
Although Edgar scored again in the 24th minute—an own goal (2-1), UD Almería still had the upper hand. Luis Suárez had a goal ruled out for offside and in extra time, the Colombian passed through to Nico Melamed to make it 3-1 at half-time.
A few minutes after the restart, the score was 4-1. Lucas Robertone took a free-kick, and Marc Pubill, at the far post, beat Femenías. They had out the game to bed, because many chances had to be missed for the match to become complicated. The result gave UD Almería a great deal of confidence and knocked out Zaragoza.
Rubi's men, after that score, lacked fluidity in their game due to their own errors when playing the ball out from the back or trying to finish their attacks. There were some highlights such as Edgar's can-do attitude and aptitude, emerging from defence with the ball under control and entering the opponents' box twice in the 70th minute; Bazdar's sending-off in the 80th for a harsh challenge on Marc Pubill; and Luis Suárez's genius inside the box that almost rounded off the result in the 89th minute.
