2-1: Same old story, just a different game

Almería outplayed Zaragoza and managed to equalise but a controversial VAR decision granted the Northern hosts victory

UD Almería scored a goal that could have given them the lead but it was chalked off in the end. The Rojiblancos found the way to cancel out Real Zaragoza’s opener, to the point that they became much superior thanks to Lucas Robertone’s equaliser and second goal from more than 30 yards. Then, the VAR intervened to ruled out his second by the smallest of margins for an offside. The Indalicos kept trying, but the home team recorded a 2-1 win over their visitors.

It was not a good start for the team led by José Gomes, since UD Almería suffered the continuous crosses that the hosts were making. This is how Real Zaragoza put themselves in front thanks to Adrián González’s header on nine minutes.

Almería gained momentum with Lucas Robertone doing his very best up front. In fact, the Argentinian found the back of the net within 33 minutes, a play started by Petrović with Balliu involved. Before drawing level, the midfielder had already put Cristian Álvarez to the test.

João Carvalho replaced yellow carded Samú Costa in the second half. The Rojiblancos were the only footballers who were closer to score again during this period, creating one goal-scoring opportunity after another.

After several goal attempts, in the 60th minute, Robertone booted from more than 30 yards. It was meant to be the best goal of the weekend, however, as if it were a never-ending story, the decision was overturned by the slightest of margins after a VAR consultation, because of an offside 25 seconds before the shot.

The disallowed goal was a heavy cross to bear for UD Almeria. The Rojiblancos went all out for a win but Zaragoza managed to break the deadlock to claim a 2-1 victory inside 79 minutes. UD Almería ended up gifting three away points that were at stake at La Romareda stadium.
