1-1: Valuable draw, although it could have been a victory

UD Almería played a brilliant game against hosts Elche CF with clear chances to win. Sadiq scored and latest signing Baptistao debuted

UD Almería collected their first point of the 2022/23 season by drawing 1-1 with Elche CF at the Martínez Valero Stadium in Elche city, a result that could have been even more positive because the Rojiblancos deserved to win. In fact, they played a brilliant match, especially in the second period with clear chances created. UD Almeria competed very well, as they did against Real Madrid CF last week at home, having great attitude and putting in a brave fight as they settled for a draw. Sadiq put UD Almería ahead in the 23rd minute, although shortly after, in the 30th minute, Elche CF tied. The score did not change despite both sides went back and forth up the pitch, especially the visitors.

Head coach Rubi chose a Starting XI similar to the one from the first Matchday with a single change, that of Arnau Puigmal who played on the right wing replacing Chumi and keeping a formation with three central defenders. Although Elche CF were the ones who started the match taking the initiative, UD Almería were well organised showing a solid, effective performance at the back and launched a counter-attack, taking advantage of the speed of Ramazani and Sadiq. The Nigerian opened the scoring within 23 minutes when he headed in a corner (0-1). Even UD Almería could have extended their advantage shortly after, opponent Collado managed to draw level with a shot to the near post (1-1).

The second half was electric indeed with UD Almería competing brightly through vertical football; at times commanding and taking the initiative, and sometimes looking for speed. Babić was about to make it 1-2, as was Ramazani twice with two powerful strikes.

Although UD Almería were reigning superior and gave the impression of being able to take the three points home, Elche CF also responded and there was a period over the course of this second half in which both sides engineered chances going all out for a victory.

Latest signing Baptistao was brought in and as soon as he walked out onto the field he fashioned a clear chance following a great play by Ramazani. The local goalie snuffed out the danger once again. A few seconds later Ramazani was denied.

UD Almería continued to put in a brave performance with Dyego Sousa coming off the bench, but the score would not change. Valuable point and great vibes in Elche on Matchday 2.
