1-0: Another one bites the dust at the Power Horse Stadium

A hard-fought, fourth home victory on the bounce for 10-man UD Almería thanks to match-winner Baptistão. First clean sheet of the 2022/23 season.

Another one bites the dust at the Power Horse Stadium. Another victory for Rubi's team, this time against Getafe CF, in a match with Baptistão scoring the match-winning goal in the 25th minute. UD Almería dominated much of the 90 minutes even when they were down to 10 men following Ely's sending-off in the final minutes. Getafe CF tried their hardest, but the Rojiblancos were showing their all-round defending abilities to keep a clean sheet (1-0).

As for the Starting XI, Rubi lined up the same players who achieved the previous victories at home over Rayo Vallecano, Girona FC and Celta de Vigo, but with one exception, Pozo caming on the right flank instead of Mendes.

The first minutes of the match were not dominated by either team, however the first clear sight at goal was for UD Almería through Embarba with a strike from inside the box, although it was ruled out for offside. Shortly after this opportunity, Baptistão opened the scoring with a towering header on 25 minutes from a corner-kick booted by Embarba (1-0).

Even though Getafe CF lacked the cutting edge at the beginning, they tried to get back into the match. The direct rivals left half-spaces which helped UD Almeria to find it easier to get on the ball around the edge of the penalty area to create more chances. Possession also belonged to the hosts who were controlling the game through and through. Getafe FC fashioned a chance from a corner-kick just before half-time, but Babić and Ely were at their masterful best defending.

The first side to get closer to finishing on point were the Rojiblancos. With 54 minutes on the clock, Robertone tried his luck from the edge of the box, and shortly after, in the 58th minute, Baptistão, who was on song, was about to put it past David Soria again with a header from inside the small area. This woke the Azulones up as they began to put Fernando to the test with threatening situations and dangerous crossing from wide positions.

Time began to wind down and Rubi's team could have doubled their lead thanks to a beautifully left-footed shot from Akieme within the box after 68 minutes, yet Getafe CF's defence were very attentive to deflect it over for a corner. The Madrid-based guests were approaching Fernando's goal, but were down on their luck; the Indalicos were putting in an invigorated performance defensively.

With 78 minutes gone, Eguaras attempted to make the most of a good counter-attack and ended up being denied by the defenders. Inside 87 minutes, the Rojiblancos were down to 10-man since Rodrigo Ely was sent off following two yellow cards, so the hosts would endure the remainder of the match with one less player.

Getafe CF went all out on the attack, creating many dangerous plays, especially with centre-backs. But the defenders in red and white kits were fully determined to keep a clean sheet. Eguaras squandered a clear-cut opportunity to have made it 2-0, although the midfielder lacked the precision to trouble David Soria. Getafe CF failed to score a last-gasp equaliser through a free-kick from the edge of the box, but they would not find any finisher ready to snatch a point before the conclusion. The final scoreline was 1-0 with UD Almeria celebrating the fourth consecutive victory at home and 3 massive points before the break for Qatar World Cup.
