4-2: UD Almería's 'gunpowder' fuels victory
Rubi’s men fire on all cylinders, overcoming guests Real Zaragoza in a thrilling encounter. Goals courtesy from Chirino, Embarba, Arnau and Lopy sealed all 3 points
Another brilliant performance from UD Almería, who continue to climb the standings and edge closer to a promotion play-off spot. Goals from Chirino, Embarba, Arnau and Lopy sealed a dominant 4-2 victory over Real Zaragoza, leaving the stadium buzzing long after the final whistle.
The electric match, which had all the drama and intensity of a true football battle, was a 'smell of gunpowder' affair from the get go. With 14 shots on target, not including Embarba’s thundering shot off the crossbar, UD Almería showcased their firepower. Three of the six goals came in added time, highlighting the game's frantic pace. Real Zaragoza, despite their efforts, could not contain the relentless attacking force of Rubi’s team.
UD Almería’s tactical flexibility stood out once again. They demonstrated their ability to control different phases of the match, whether in the composed first half, the explosive second-half start, or the final chaotic minutes. With this win, the Rojiblancos sent a clear message to the rest of the league: they’re ready for the challenge ahead.
UD Almería’s high press and quick transitions kept Real Zaragoza under pressure from the off. Despite dominating possession and creating several opportunities, including near misses from Baptistão and Arribas, the hosts couldn’t break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes. Real Zaragoza only threatened once, with a fierce long-range shot from Sebas Moyano that went wide.
Just after the interval, Daijiro Chirino’s powerful solo effort put UD Almería ahead, followed by an emphatic strike from Embarba. With the scoreline at 2-0, Rubi made his changes to freshen things up, with Centelles replacing Álex Muñoz and Chirino being substituted for tactical reasons. But the Maños fought back, with Kodro pulling one back after a loose ball in the box, setting up a tense finish.
In the dying embers, UD Almería came close to sealing the win several times. Embarba’s shot hit the post in the 86th minute, and Baba’s adventurous ball through to Arnau could have extended the lead, but for a misfortune at the post. But with the game hanging in the balance, Arribas played a decisive role, assisting Arnau Puigmal for a well-timed 3-1 goal.
However, Real Zaragoza were not finished. Soberón's header made it 3-2 and the tension reached a fever pitch. Yet, Lopy sealed the deal with a brilliant solo run in the 90th minute, elegantly weaving through defenders before finding the back of the net. It was a fitting conclusion to a thrilling, goal-laden match.
