UD Almería signs Gui Guedes, one of the true greats of Portuguese football

The 20-year-old midfielder becomes the Club’s first recruit of the summer as the Portuguese signs for 6 seasons from top-tier side Vitória Guimarães SC

UD Almería have completed their first recruit of the summer transfer window with the signing of  Gui Guedes, a 20-year-old midfielder who moves on a 6-season deal from Portugal top-flight side Vitoria Guimaraes SC.  The decision to sign him was a no-brainer provided that he is one of the true greats of Lusitanian football who had even been one of the most sought-after players by several English and French clubs, but UD Almería have gone ahead and he will ply his trade as a Rojiblanco in the end.

Guilherme Borges Guedes, also known as Gui, was born on 17 April, 2002 in the Portuguese town of Santa Marta de Penaguião . He is 1,83 metres tall and has developed through the Vitória Guimarães youth system. Last 2021/22 campaign, he made the leap to the first-team squad, making his first appearances in the Lusitanian top-tier Liga Portugal bwin, in the Allianz Cup and in the Taça de Portugal Placard domestic Cup, no less.

Gui, who is an U20 international, plays as a central midfielder characterised by his physical strength and quality, having a superb tactical awareness and an attacking character in midfield too. He becomes the first summer acquisition made by UD Almería ahead of the 2022/23 season in the Spanish top flight, after the contract renewals of Alex Centelles and Rodrigo Ely, as well as the contract extensions of Srđan Babić and Alejandro Pozo, who become UD Almeria footballers once the Club has activated their respective option-to-buy clauses.
