Samú Costa: ‘We’ll head into the game with the greatest ambition, but with our feet on the ground’

The Portuguese midfielder recognises ‘it’s impossible not to think that we’re 90 minutes away from promotion,’ although he clarifies ‘matches aren’t won in 5 minutes’

‘We’ll head into the match with the greatest ambition, but keeping our feet on the ground,’ explained UD Almeria defensive midfielder Samú Costa when looking ahead to next Saturday's game against AD Alcorcón. The Portuguese footballer recognised ‘it’s impossible not to think that we’re 90 minutes away from promotion, although at the same time, he clarified ‘matches aren’t won in 5 minutes. We have to be calm and do things right.’

The next Madrid-based opponents will arrive already relegated to the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium, although Samú made it clear ‘AD Alcorcón are coming to compete. They’ve been in this tier for many years, they’ve got experienced players and we must be prepared to host the best AD Alcorcón who have been capable of springing big surprises in recent weeks. We have to analyse it and read the match well.’

The 21-year-old defensive midfielder stressed ‘the team is calm and it’s a good time for us, we haven't conceded in the last four games and we’re scoring more than one goal. It’s the path that we must follow and we only have to stick to the match plan indicated by our head coach. In addition, each one of us has to run as if it were the last game of his life. We have to give it our all.’

The Aveiro-born player pointed out ‘to win, you have to do it on the pitch and mean it of course. We know that in the second tier all the teams want to compete and are proud. We really respect AD Alcorcón and that's why we're running the training week as usual.’
