Samú Costa: 'We have great attacking players so there'll be goals for sure'

The Portuguese stays humble and affirms his commitment to the Portugal U21 squad and his deal extension with UD Almería. 'I only think about the match in Bilbao,' he says

'We have great attacking players so there'll be goals for sure,' assured UD Almería midfielder Samú Costa in his press conference as he replied to the questions asked by the media at the Power Horse Stadium press room.

The Portuguese has just arrived from international duty after playing, winning and scoring with the Portugal U21 squad. He seems to be in luck as he has recently extended his contract with UD Almería until June 2029. On that note, Samú acknowledges 'I'm happy and satisfied. It's a great time for me,' but at the same time, the footballer pointed out 'I live in the present and I'm now only thinking about Friday's game in Bilbao. The best way I have to thank for everything is by working hard.'

Since the Aveiro-born midfielder joined UD Almería, he has been a regular in the line-ups, on which he reflected 'I'm improving enormously, although this wouldn't have been possible without the help of my team-mates. I've had two head coaches here and both picked me out me to play. I guess that means that they like my work and how I play, but this has to be proven every day.'

The 21-year-old midfielder has no doubt that 'there's no crisis or a rough patch at UD Almeria. We're competing well. We feel safe when defending and what we need is to score a goal, something that will happen soon for sure.'

Playing in the Spain's Primera Division, as he underlined, 'is no longer a dream, but a reality,' and he added 'this tier is more difficult than Segunda Division because those goals scored through lapses are disallowed with greater ease. We're a humble team that likes to play football anyway.'

When talking about the upcoming test in Bilbao, he explained 'playing in San Mamés is going to be difficult because of the stadium and its atmosphere, however we're prepared to win by following the plan that the head coach he has given us.'

In addition to the big challenge of fighting to avoid the drop this season with UD Almería, Samú recognised that he would also like 'to be able to make the big stride to the Portugal senior team and I know that with my work I'll be able to make it in the end as long as I keep on the right track. Joining up with your home country squad serves to gain experience and more confidence,' concluded Samú Costa.
