Rubi: ‘We want to continue to be highly demanding with ourselves’

The head coach, who praises Burgos CF, stresses ‘they’ll come to make life difficult for us so we must be prepared’

‘We want to continue to be highly demanding with ourselves,’ stressed UD Almeria head coach Rubi at the press-match presser as the Rojiblancos are hosting Burgos CF this Sunday at Juegos Mediterráneos (kick-off 6:15pm Spain Time/ Matchday 15). Despite recognising that although this is a ‘precious moment’ for his team, he wants more: ‘we always look to improve.’

In fact, Rubi pointed out ‘the rivals created danger through some of our failed passes in Gijon, but they’re aspects easy to correct. I’d be more concerned if we were not well positioned or that we didn’t know how to pile pressure effectively.’

Now Burgos CF are coming, about whom he said ‘based on the fact that in LaLiga SmartBank there’s no weak opponent,I have to say that they’re a well-organised team who don’t gift half-spaces and will come to make life difficult for us. We need to have their attacking players under control very well. They usually score many counter-attack goals and that will require us to be careful. They also like attacking from the wings and cause trouble from set-pieces. They sit deep when playing away.’

The Catalan added ‘we’ve seen all their matches. If we look at their last few games, they’ve been able to beat Huesca and in-form Oviedo away from home. It wasn’t their day against CD Tenerife and Real Zaragoza, even though they deserved much more.’

The UD Almería gaffer indicated ‘It’s a good time for us since we’ve achieved a small advantage that we not only want to maintain but to increase as the current leaders.’ Rubi recognises our priority is the result,’ although he stressed ‘we want to be able to offer our fans a good game because we made them suffer in the last one.’

On the other hand, he clarified 'we’re seen as the team to beat and we have to know how to play with it,’ something about which he had no doubt as his players ‘are very involved and with ambition.’

Carriço's long-term injury is a setback and therefore, the head coach explains ‘it’s a blow to us because we only have one right-back. It's a shame what happened to him because he was performing really well and he told me that he was feeling good. Now we have to encourage him and wish him a speedy recovery.’
