Rubi: ‘We have to do things very well to beat Málaga’

The head coach is hoping his side can bounce back to winning ways and stresses ‘there’s no possibility of reaching high goals without the fans’ support’

UD Almería head coach Rubi gave a pre-Malaga presser to look ahead to Saturday's game and did not hesitate to say ‘we have to do things very well to be able to beat our rivals.’ In fact, he added on that note ‘another important team in the league is coming.’

The coach of the UD Almeria first team is hoping ‘to bounce back to winning ways after the defeat suffered in Lezama, from which we left very much affected,’ although he highlighted the positive attitude of his players, who went all out for the triumph with ten men on the pitch. Rubi also acknowledged ‘we obviously made mistakes, although the sending-off determined everything.’

That league meeting is now past. A week is gone in which the Rojiblancos have worked to recover the good vibes, especially when the brave Málaga CF players are visiting. The next adversaries ooze quality, practice high press and always outplay their adversaries. They played a great game on the last Matchday and also came back from being down 2-0 against UD Ibiza on the previous one, which isn’t easy at all. They’ll be tough rivals to beat so we’ll have to give it our all.’

The Catalan coach believes in his side and truly hopes that they will start off the fixture again ‘as we do in every match. We can’t forget that, we scored early in the three games we played, something very significant.’

The UD Almería head coach was asked if he was satisfied with his squad once the transfer window business ended. He replied honestly ‘they’re our players and therefore, they’re the best, although we’re going to make them sweat blood to show their qualities.’ He then pointed out ‘some more players could’ve come but it wasn’t possible in the end. To be honest, I’m very happy because we’ve got a great squad and we’ve also made the right choices as they’re good people too.’ In the same way, he valued that the average age has risen and clarified ‘I like youth because they always bring nerve, speed, hope... yet we have to complement it with experienced players.’

Rubi places a great value on the Academy members as Robles and Caballero have already debuted with the UD Almeria first team. On the other hand, he highlighted the fact that the fans play a vital role: ‘after taking on Real Oviedo, I forgot to express how much they helped us when we were in difficult moments. Their support is essential and without it, there’s no possibility of reaching high goals…but we have to win them over.’
