Rubi: ‘It was difficult for us to defeat Águilas FC in the pre-season’

The head coach warns that this Tuesday's opponents are a great squad and ‘the Spanish Cup format doesn’t give you the option of having a bad day’

‘It was difficult for us to defeat Águilas FC in the pre-season. They’re a team that although they haven’t achieved the expected results in their tier, they’re a great squad,’ explained UD Almeria head coach Rubi when looking ahead to the Spanish Copa del Rey. The inminent  single-legged tie is going to be played between Aguilas FC and UD Almeria at the El Rubial Stadium this Tuesday, 30th November (KO 9pm Spain Time).

The Rojiblancos’ gaffer pointed out ‘we’re going to face this tournament as excited as we’re in the league and of course looking forward to participating and getting through to the next round. The Spanish Cup has a format that is really exciting indeed as it doesn’t give the option of having a bad day at the office...otherwise you’ll crash out of the competition.’ Rubi positively valued playing on a good pitch near home and against a club that has acquaintances from UD Almería.’

When asked if he was actually focusing more on Saturday's league meeting with CF Fuenlabrada than this Tuesday’s Cup tie, he replied ‘it’d be a big mistake to think about game number two when you have number one coming; first, because you have to respect all the competitions; second, because there are some rivals who can beat you and if you don’t do things right, they can make you have a bad time and third, because what we like is to compete and play games...and the first one will be played this Tuesday. There’s still enough time until Saturday’s game.’

Regarding the starting XI to be picked out, there will be changes ‘there aren’t many players who haven’t got minutes in the league. There may be a specific footballer who didn’t get minutes, but there’s always something new and there’ll be something new in Águilas.’
