3-2: Almería Women head back home empty-handed

After trailing 2-0 in just 7 minutes, the Rojiblancas reacted but fell short of victory against Santa Teresa ‘B’

UD Almería Women suffered a defeat after 7 consecutive games without losing. The Rojiblancas were slow out of the traps as they conceded two Santa Teresa ‘B’ goals in just 7 minutes. As a result, the Indálicas reacted by creating enough chances to have achieved a new victory. Irene pulled one back in the second half, the hosts extended their lead again and Adriana scored the last goal of the game to make it 3-2. with 5 minutes to go, the visitors had to set on their journey back home empty-handed despite dominating the game in the final minutes.

The start of the match was a real nightmare for the Almeria Women as the Badajoz-based team opened the scoring within 1 minute (1-0). It was an unexpected setback for the Rojiblancas, who shortly after, were trailing 2-0 in the 7th minute.

Almería Women had a mountain to climb, They put in a commanding display to turn the game around highlighting a strike from Fatima that grazed the crossbar and with half an hour gone, through a breakaway by Jessi on the wing, Paqui was ready to beat the goalkeeper, but that a defender’s clearance under the sticks denied the Rojiblanca.

The visitors from Andalusia kept possession of the ball in the second period. As usual, they were not willing to give up. After Fatima forced the Santa Teresa ‘B keeper into a smart save, Irene's cross ended up inside the net (2-1).

The Indálicas outfit boosted their forward line in a bid to draw level. This would make the home team girls to sit back, tackling in their defensive third and performing some counter-attacks. Moreover, the visitors were deserving to equalise, however, in the 73rd minute, the Extremadura girls scored two goals from long range taking advantage of a counter-attack (3-1).

From that moment, only attempts made by girls in green checked shirts were visible as the Rojiblancas wore their third kit on Matchday 8. Adriana gave hope with 5 minutes to go (3-2). Courage and grit did not reward the visitors who left the ground empty-handed and experiencing a first defeat that put an end to their seven-week unbeaten streak. Next week, Almeria Women will be hosting Extremadura CF Women.
