2-3: UD Almería Women bid adieu to promotion despite winning

The Rojiblancas beat Extremadura CF Women in a competitive match, yet the victory of Cacereño ‘B’ over CD La Cañada Atletico leaves them out of the higher tier

The worst possible outcome… Even though UD Almería Women racked up a victory over Extremadura CF Women in a highly competitive match from start to finish (2-3), the Indalicas bade adieu to promotion following the win notched up by CP Cacereño ‘B’ over CD La Cañada Atlético. The Indalicas have lost any option to earn promotion to the higher tier and have secured fourth place before this historic season comes to an end after hosting San Miguel in two weeks with nothing at stake.

The UD Almeria Women’s side faced the encounter with several absences in the squad list and therefore, the starting XI. The players of both teams were fully involved from the off with plenty of goal-mouth activity and big chances. It was all square at half-time (1-1) after Anita Paris converted a penalty and Sara Murillo grabbed the leveller immediately afterwards.

The second period was similar to the first. With 69 minutes on the clock, UD Almería Women once again enjoyed the opportunity to take the lead when the ref awarded them a penalty. Anita Paris again took responsibility for the well-taken kick and made it 1-2.

The visitors were competing at a high level against the girls from Extremadura who were making things rather difficult on home soil. In fact, it didn't take long for the hosts to equalise in the 71st minute (2-2), but Fatima unleashed a powerful shot inside 76 minutes to seal victory (2-3).

UD Almería Women —who needed to win their remaining two games and CP Cacereño ‘B’ Women to get a maximum of one point in theirs— did their homework, but their direct rivals also won, so the the Rojiblancas bade adieu to all the options to move up to the new tier that the RFEF has created between Reto —second division of women's football in Spain— and Primera Nacional
