2-2: Almeria ‘B’ settle for a draw against resilient Real Jaén

The Academy players were trailing following a dubious penalty. They found a leveller in the second half and merited a victory

The UD Almería ‘B’ lads had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Real Jaén who were resilient and eager to win at the Anexo Juegos Mediterraneos. The Academy products showed the great ability to equalise within 5 minutes and cancel out an opener from the visitors, but a dubious penalty whistled on 20 minutes made it 1-2 until half-time. After the restart, Gilbert found a leveller (2-2) and despite the fact that the young Indálicos merited a victory, they just bagged one point that makes it four winless weeks.

Three minutes in, the hopeful Rojiblancos were trailing following a shot from Moha coming from a corner-kick. The hosts reacted immediately since Gilbert received a defender’s clearance and beat the keeper in a one-on-one situation to take the heat up a notch.

With the game tied at 1-1, Almería ‘B’ started to create chances. Inside 13 minutes, the home team boys began to send warning shots, for instance...Rojas’s individual play on the wing with a reverse pass to fellow Sylla, whose shot skimmed the post. Yes, Almeria ‘B’ increased momentum but suddenly, the referee awarded a dubious penalty, which seemed non-existent and in an action in which not even the visitors had claimed anything, so Real Jaén were again ahead (1-2).

Almeria ‘B’ dominance was shown on home soil after the visitors broke the deadlock. Cuenca created a clear-cut chance in a corner-kick, which would be saved by the goalie. The one who did not hesitate to earn his name onto the scoresheet was Gilbert, whose goal came as soon as he returned from the dressing room (2-2).

From that moment, it was an encounter with end-to-end activity, although as the minutes went by, the opportunities that UD Almería ‘B’ had were increasingly clear to defeat well-organised rivals. Jean Marco’s shot to the side of the net a cross from the left, Fermín hit the woodwork and Kevi’s strike grazed the crossbar missing a glorious chance, while adversaries Real Jaén, fired just one shot blocked by Obón.

The final whistle confirmed the distribution of points in a contest in which the two sides merited to clinch points. It has been 4 match weeks with no victory for the young Rojiblancos. Next week, there is a trip to visit CF Motril, one of the main favorites for promotion.
