2-1: Own mistakes condemn UD Almería

The Rojiblancos were down to 10 men within 17 minutes and their great performance had no reward due to a last-gasp goal

UD Almería suffered the first defeat of this season because the mistakes of the Rojiblancos were decisive in the final result. The Indalicos went ahead courtesy of Curro’ rocket goal and it was then when a series of mistakes complicated the match. First, a goalkeeper’s error led to SD Amorebieta's draw, while, shortly after, Robertone was sent off. From the 17th minute UD Almeria were at a disadvantage and did a great job to try to score, but an 88-minute match-winning goal at the hands of the hosts gave the opponents victory (2-1).

It was not a disastrous match for UD Almería. Two changes to the side that faced Real Oviedo on Matchday 2 were made by Rubi for the third league match as both goalie Makaridze and Aitor Buñuel, on the right wing, started. Undoubtedly, the Rojiblancos were the ones beginning the contest sending warnings. With two minutes gone, Curro Sánchez slotted home beating keeper Santamaría. The UD Almeria contenders could have scored more goals, but Sadiq narrowly missed. However, when the visitors were at their best, SD Amorebieta levelled it up on 14 minutes. An unexpected mistake made by Makaridze ended with a powerful shot by Iker Bilbao to make it 1-1.

This error would not be the only one, so that the Basque country-based team could enjoy the privilege of playing a large part of the match with superiority. That is to say, an attempt to clear rebounded in Samú Costa and the home team moved forward towards the goal. Robertone committed a foul a few inches away from the box and the referee showed him the red card. Things went downhill from that moment.

UD Almería had to overcome these adversities. A great work on the pitch began to emerge from Rubi's men to do their very best to score. In turn, after the restart, Arnau Puigmal replaced Lazo. During the second period, Ramazani and Aitor Buñuel teamed up to create danger. On the other hand, the SD Amorebieta players also created some goal-scoring opportunities, although the great performance from UD Almeria was still worth highlighting.

It was 1-1 near the end of the match. With ambition for the victory, Almeria ‘B’ player Raúl Caballero - who made his debut in the official match with the first team -  entered the field for some action and soon after the hosts scored the match-winning goal. There were two minutes to go when Obieta beat Makaridze. The VAR confirmed that the attacker was in the right position. UD Almeria worked hard to overcome adversity but some very decisive own errors and a last-gasp goal saw the Rojiblancos drop a point.
