2-1: Another brilliant game from UD Almeria

The Rojiblancos demonstrate authority against Real Oviedo and clinch the victory with goals from Lazo and Robertone

UD Almería achieved the second victory of the 2021/22 season by returning to perform a brilliant game to beat Real Oviedo with goals from Lazo and Robertone. In general terms, the Rojiblancos were much superior to their rivals and they would not have to suffer a lot, except for a single occasion in which the visitors scored on 15 minutes. The UD Almeria team went ahead 4 minutes into the clash and the Argentinian midfielder slotted home to secure victory before the break (2-1). A second half of hard work was seen to collect all three points on the match day when the fans returned to the Juegos Mediterraneos Stadium.

There was just one change within the starting XI with respect to those starters on Matchday 1 in Cartagena: Juanjo Nieto replaced Aitor Buñuel on the right wing, so Fernando between the sticks, Chumi, Iván Martos, Akieme, Samú, Robertone, Curro, Lazo, Ramazani and Sadiq Umar remained.

The Rojiblancos made a lively start under the Juegos Mediterraneos’ lights. Barely four minutes had passed when Sadiq provided Lazo with a superb assist and the confident left-winger did not miss the opportunity to open the scoring (1-0). The first goal was celebrated with a big roar by a crowd of 4,000 fans in the stands.

The hosts kept up the good work displayed during the opening game last week. In fact, only one mistake was made and of course, the Northerners from Real Oviedo took advantage of it to draw level (1-1). Obeng was in charge of finding the equaliser within 14 minutes.

From there, the goal-scoring opportunities at the hands of Rubi's men would be happening one after another. With 40 minutes on the clock, Sadiq found the back of the net, but the ref ruled it out it due to a foul. No worries…on the other hand, a powerful shot from Robertone was recorded in the scoreboard during stoppage time and the Indálicos superiority was reflected at halftime (2-1).

After the restart, the UD Almeria contenders continued to boss things as they were eager to extend their advantage through a game of quick play and effective combinations and in which there was a great explosiveness when it came to running up front. A breakaway on the right wing by Portillo nearly led after 62 minutes. The right-winger, who had just come in to replace Lazo, narrowly missed the shot.

The final stretch stood out for the Rojiblancos’ dominance to remain in the lead, however goalie Femenías denied Sadiq Umar’s fine attempt. In addition, the Nigerian himself got another goal chalked off in stoppage time for offside. After all, UD Almería clinched the first home victory and have picked up six points in the LaLiga SmartBank standings so far.
