0-2: Football is once again unfair with UD Almería

The Rojiblancos, who are still into automatic promotion, rue missed chances and suffer from SD Eibar's effectiveness

UD Almería were defeated 0-2 by rivals SD Eibar in a match in which football was once again unfair to the Indálicos. Generally speaking, it was the Rojiblancos who created the most big chances, but they suffered from not taking advantage of the goal-scoring opportunities carved out and the high effectiveness of the side from the Basque Country, who netted twice. As a result, the Almerienses lost out on 3 points and also the LaLiga SmartBank lead, although remaining in a position of automatic promotion to the Spanish top flight.

Fernando; Aitor Buñuel, Chumi, Babic, Akieme, Samú Costa, César de la Hoz, Robertone, Pozo, Portillo and Ramazani were in contention to feature against SD Eibar. Some players made a comeback for a game with UD Almeria slow out of the traps since the brand-new scoreboard recorded the 0-1 nine minutes after opponent Edu Expósito scored a brilliant opener.

That would end the visitors’ offensive contribution in the first period as after taking the lead, they decided to sit deep…Quite the opposite to UD Almería’s plan since the home team members did not stop designing plays and looking to level things up during the remaining minutes of the first half. Yoel made two great saves to deny shots from Pozo and Samú, while a strike from Ramazani went narrowly wide.

The second half kicked off with fluidity in the Rojiblancos’ game. Seeking to make their presence felt high upfield, the head coach introduced Juan Villar in a bid to lead the attack. The hosts continued to pile the pressure on their rivals, who breathed easy when keeper Yoel continued to be the hero of his team to avert danger following a corner-kick taken by Robertone and a header by Juan Villar.

UD Almería were deserving of the arrival of the much-needed equaliser as the match wore on, however the injustice of football became clear again. It was the 81st minute and SD Eibar doubled their lead (0-2) after Quique sent a cross from the right wing into the net as the visitors raced into an industrious lead in the second half.

There would be no chance for the Indalicos in the final stretch that could give hope, so their loss at the Mediterraneo was confirmed even though they deserved something more than what happened in the end. There are reasons to look on the bright side of the table as Rubi's team are still into automatic promotion spots.
