0-2: A vital victory in the tight race for promotion

UD Almería proved their might against Burgos CF following a fantastic output away from home

A vital away victory was racked up by UD Almería in the tight race for promotion to the top flight. The Rojiblancos proved their might until they ended up taking three more important points home from a difficult venue to win [El Plantío]. The goals came in the first feisty 45 minutes courtesy of Robertone first, and an own goal scored afterwards. Both goals led to a huge step for the Rojiblancos in a crucial part of the 2021/22 season.
Head coach Rubi surprised in his starting XI selection after four changes were made with the aim that those starters will play confidently in a demanding encounter away from home. Fernando; Pozo, Ely, Babić, Centelles, Eguaras, Samú, Robertone, Appiah, Ramazani and Sadiq were handed a starting spot. Burgos CF made it difficult for the visitors by forcing Fernando after seven minutes to block a fine attempt by Ernesto. It did not take long for Robertone to shine out as the Argentinian scored the opening goal thanks to compatriots Pozo and Sadiq who set up the opener (0-1).
The UD Almeria contenders were on the front foot inside 17 minutes, but there would still be a lot of fighting against  demanding hosts who 20 minutes in, were about to pull them back level through a shot that Babić blocked under sticks. The Rojiblancos' slight lull continued until half-time. Pozo shot powerfully to the top corner and the goalkeeper sent the ball to a corner-kick from which the 0-2 would come out later when opponent Grego sent the cross into his own goal (0-2).
When the second period started the Burgaleses created little danger in the final third defended by Fernando as they were galvanised into action. In fact, with 70 minutes on the clock, nothing more had been experienced that some opportunities wasted by the home team who did not give the impression that they could break the comfortable advantage that the Indalicos had at that time.
Tactics and strategy were paying off. A moment of uncertainty was experienced  when the ref awarded Burgos CF a penalty, who on the other hand, did not earned their name onto the scoreboard since Fernando pulled off a great save.
The full-time whistle was about to be blown with UD Almería knowing how to perform well to continue one more weekend in automatic promotion thanks to this vital victory amid an important part of the competition in which they are fighting their tooth and nail for automatic promotion to the Primera Division.
