0-1: Get in there! Six back-to-back wins!

UD Almería defeat tough adversaries from Ibiza with a battling display, great teamwork and grit

Get in there! UD Almería clinched their sixth consecutive victory of the season, equaling team historical records. The Rojiblancos relied on great teamwork and grit when reading the game to finish beating tough UD Ibiza. Match-winner Dyego Sousa made it 0-1 just before the break inspiring his team to victory.

It was a fast-paced first half with both sides creating goal-scoring opportunities yet without any big chance that could open the scoring on the island. It was with the passing of the minutes that UD Almería grew into the game and found spaces, forcing the hosts to sit back.

After a phase of duels, with the visitors accustomed to making their presence known in the attacking third, they had the opportunity to convert from 12 yards. After a VAR check by the match official, a penalty was awarded to the Indalicos because opponent Javi Lara was penalised for handball. Dyego Sousa -starter replacing Sadiq- was in charge of scoring the goal of the game that put his side in front at half-time (0-1).

The arrival of the second half saw the Andalusians enjoying ball possession continuously, passing from one side to the other trying to approach the opposing box with considerable danger. With 63 minutes on the clock, after a succession of corner-kicks in favour, Samú Costa tried his luck from afar, however goalie Germán was on the line to keep it out.

UD Ibiza did not give up and sent warning shots in search of an equaliser, highlighting above all of them a cross to the far post that Javi Lara finished off and in which Fernando was more than ready as per usual to snuff out the danger.

During the second period, UD Almeria’s great teamwork and grit nearly granted them the second to double their lead and see the game out with minimal fuss. Nevertheless, the woodwork denied Arnau’s fine effort after being teed up by peer Arvin Appiah.

After the final whistle, there is a six-point gap at the top of the LaLiga SmartBank table with UD Almeria leading the pack following this sixth consecutive victory.
